I believe I know my life purpose. Knowing alone, though, only begins the journey. Finding purpose unlocks the next level. Walking in purpose comes next. How in the world does one walk in purpose? The process requires action on our part.

A couple of years ago I found The Hobbit film series free OnDemand. That lead to my deep desire to continue the storyline and watch The Lord of the Rings series. The Lord of The Rings could not be watched free OnDemand. My quest to continue caused me to be bolder than usual with problem-solving.

Do you have a quest? Have you felt that deep need to find answers to the pressing problem at hand? Maybe you are a go-getter. I am not. I tend to shift into Eeyore mode when the easy button fails to materialize. But I really, really wanted to watch the second trilogy free of charge. I checked the library. The internet failed to cough up an option. Ultimately, I posted my need on Facebook. Almost immediately a friend offered to loan it to me. After a short car ride, I savored sweet victory and curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn.

Last week, a verse came to mind as I thought about walking in purpose. So much scripture hangs out in my head just to jump out and surprise me at random times. This time, the command to ask, seek and knock grabbed my attention.

⁷ “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. ⁸ For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.   Matthew 7: 7-8 CSB

Do seek and knock seem redundant to you? They always have for me. The three imperatives arranged themselves on top of one another in my mind. Until now, I did not see each command as an uptick in necessary action on my part.

Do we really, really want to walk in purpose? Is living out the life God creates us for at least as important as a great movie series? Or, are we content to sit in the familiar and excuse away that nagging fear of missing out?

Asking the right questions begins our quest. Discovering much beyond that point requires the investment of additional energy. Our quest will require action on our part. Oh, how I wish life would simply land in my lap. For the most part, life rarely works that way.

Seeking denotes movement. Our quest requires more than just asking Google. We may need to hunt for some how-to. That has proven true of my desire to write. I continue seeking education on the art of writing. Days melt away while I hunt for my next right step.

What about knocking? Commitment comes to mind. When I knock on someone’s door, I have a sincere need or established business with that person. Unless you are up to no good, you don’t knock on someone’s door without a purpose. Our quest requires a desire to fulfill our calling that compels us to commit to doing things that may feel uncomfortable. We will need to leave behind our status quo, knock on some doors, and step into unfamiliar spaces.

Each day provides a new opportunity to get serious about living a fulfilled life. If you don’t know where to start, start by asking. Talk to God about what comes next for you.
